Since I now have my own website I think I should post more often. I will do a few posts on both queery.co.za and on blogspot until the website is completely up and running. It still has a few bugs that I am struggling with, but I hope to have it all fixed in a few weeks.
Back to updates:
Last weekend was a long weekend and I got invited to drive with Mr.Metro to Mossel Bay. It was a spur of the moment decision on my end, since he asked me the Friday afternoon. I went home at about 5 and had a little while before he would be in Stellenbosch, so I decided to take a 30 minute nap. I woke up from that nap with a huge head ache. Mr.Metro arrived and we decided to drive the N2 way to Mossel Bay instead of our usual route through the tunnel. So on the N2, right before Sir Lowrys Pass, we hit a traffic jam because of the road works. After getting out of the jam, we were still in quite a bit of traffic, which was expected since it was a long weekend. Before getting to Riviersonderend a rabbit runs out from the bushes to our left, though we tried to evade it, striking it was unavoidable. We then stopped at Riviersonderend for a smoke and to check out the damage to the car. There were no damage that we could see and after Mr.Metro’s last drag on his rolly, we decided to head off again.
Less than a km after Heidelberg we saw the bakkie in front of us drive over a dead buck. We couldn’t avoid it and had to try and go over it ourselves. We were probably driving 100km/h by that stage. A few km later the coolant light went on and we knew there was trouble. We kept watching the temperature gage like a hawk. When it started rising we were looking for a place to pull over. Standing next to the road with only 1L of water we tried poring it in to the coolant reservoir but it was just draining out as we were poring it in. At least it was cooling the engine as it was going through. After the engine was cool enough we drove (more like freed) the car all the way to Riversdale where we had a better look at what had happened. We saw that we would not be able to drive like that all the way to Mossel Bay so Mr.Metro called his brother to drive through and tow us. While waiting I saw an Engine garage with a Wimpy. Walking in we saw that it had already closed at 8pm. Should have known in such a small town. Asking the shop attendee if we could at least get some coffee she told us that it is broken. Seeming like to world was against us that night we sat down in the closed wimpy drinking cold drinks we bought at the shop, When You Say Nothing At All by Ronan Keating were playing in the background, after a while we noticed t
hat the song would get stuck at a certain part and start over. I swear in the 15 to 20 minutes we sat there, it probably started over 15 to 20 times!!! Eventually we decided that the music in the car would suit our ears much better. Eventually Mr.Metro’s brother arrived and towed us to Mossel Bay, but not without going through a road block!!!
The rest of the weekend was Loki free, thank Zeus!!! Mr.Metro’s brother fixed the car (putting back the pipes and stuff). There weren’t too much damage so we the car was fine to drive by Saturday afternoon. We went fishing off of the train bridge at Grootbrak and didn’t catch anything, though Mr.Merto went deep see fishing the next day and caught a couple of stokvis which we ate that night. I must say his mum makes a mean fish!!! Any who, the air-con was still broken when driving back, but that was about the only bad luck we had on our way back.
